09:33 You Haven’t Defined Enough
Oftentimes when you look at your own financial situation and the financial situation of others, it seems like everyone is thriving while you're just doing okay. And although it seems this way, when it comes to monetary or material wealth, there are many factors that we don't talk about or don't recognize. In this video, I want to explain 7 reasons why it seems like everybody has more money than you and when you understand these reasons, you realize that you are not behind as you think you are.
1. Most ‘Rich’ People Are Severely In Debt
The reality of many people we think are "rich" because they have a bunch of nice material possessions is that they are not buying these things with their own money, but they are buying them with credit. Many "rich" people are just extremely irresponsible financially and buy things they don't need with money they don't have. A lie we are told about wealth is that it is a very visible thing; however, real wealth is invisible and often the people who look rich are not.
2. You’re Not Seeing The Trade Offs
Now, although many people who have nice things are in debt, some people who have nice things can actually afford them because they have an extremely high salary. However, there is a truth about high salary jobs that we often don't talk about and it is that there are many trade offs that come with a high salary like long hours, no work/life balance, and missing out on many things. Although we might get envious of people who have high salary jobs, if we saw the trade offs they were making, we probably would question if it was worth it.
3. You’re Not Seeing The Unfair Advantages That Led To Success
Les Brown once said, “Judge a person not by what they have accomplished, but what they had to overcome for their accomplishment.” The truth about life and success is that it is not a level playing field. Some people have more advantages in life and can achieve success quicker and easier than other people. When it seems like everyone has more money than you and is more successful, just know that we're all running different races and success is relative.
4. The Upward Comparison Trap
A huge reason why it seems that everyone has more money than you is because we often compare ourselves to people who are above us. We often compare ourselves to people who are at a different level in life and when we do that, we fail to see how far we have come and how much we have.
5. You’re Living Your Life Based On Someone Else’s Definition of Success
In the United States, we have a very set image of success that consists of status and possessions. Many people blindly pursue this image of success and are left unsatisfied when they don't achieve it; however, if we create our own definition of success instead of defaulting to this American image, we would most likely live much happier lives.
6. Wealth Grows The Most Towards The End
Younger generations often are critical towards older generations because they have more wealth and it seems like they had it easier. And although there is some truth to this, the reality of wealth is that the majority of it grows in the later years. Wealth compounds and grows in an exponential curve, but it doesn't grow quickly until late in the journey. Older people seem to have had it easier than you, but the truth is they have just had a lot more time to grow their wealth.
7. You Haven’t Defined Enough
When you really boil it down, the #1 reason it seems like everybody has more money than you is because you haven't defined enough. You haven't decided how much you need in life to be happy and when you haven't defined enough you end up focusing on what others have that you don't. When you haven't defined enough, you end up living a life of envy and jealousy. It is important to define enough, and once you do it, you will stop caring about what other people have.

Definitely true. But there are a couple of unmentioned factors that I see. Greed and self centered individualism. When was the last time you saw a Boomer put aside (one of) their precious vacations to make an investment for their families future? Hoarding wealth and dying on it is a big problem.

"The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it." - Henry David Thoreau If you can afford all of your needs, can fund some wants without breaking the bank or work like a slave, and can afford to spend quality time with your family, friends or self... Believe me, you're more than enough...

I think that people just have a different outlook on life these days . I'm 33 and really admire the work ethic of the previous generations but I really like the new generation not settling for whatever the company's are offering . The previous generations were abused and they didn't know any other way . Baby boomers will bitch and moan about a company but stay there forever.

Saving $10k was my 2023 New Year’s resolution which I started in October 2022. I hit goal in June of 2023. I did it by working 2 jobs and saving everything from the second job and any extra from my first job. I still have the second job and got a raise at my main job. I feel like 2 jobs is the way to go.

Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got to talking about investment and money. I started investing with $150k and in the first 2 months, my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and get more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.

Since risk is at an all-time high right now, perhaps you should be a little more patient and return when it has decreased. Alternatively, you can consult a trained financial expert for strategy.

Owning crypto, stocks, metals like gold and silver, save a fat stack of liquid cash for a down payment on a house. Drive broke, used Toyota and Honda cars are reliable and cheap. Cancel stupid subscriptions to all the bs streaming and other garbage "memberships". Stop eating out, cut out every unnecessary expense. I'm 25 and I have a net worth I thought I would never reach just a few years ago, the confidence he talks about is so true. And whatever you do, AVOID debt, unless it is leveraged debt like buying an asset that will produce cash flow like a business or real estate property.

This video made me reevaluate my current position in life again. Let’s see: 1. No debt 2. $20k+ in savings 3. Workplace is a five minute walk from apartment 4. Content with one job so I’ve got plenty of downtime- unlike “grinders” who are dying from stress out there. 5. I don’t do drugs 6. I don’t smoke 7. I drink occasionally usually cheap beer 8. I don’t have pets 9. I have insurance 10. Rent is affordable 11. Utilities are affordable 12. I have a townhouse being built costing me a mere $120 a month 13. My IPhone that I bought in 2018 is still working and functional 14. I’m looking up silver/gold stacking as a possible new hobby Huh, I’m doing a lot better than I thought. Thanks for the vid!

Currently listening to the book _The Organization Man_ by William H. Whyte, describing many of the phenomena that have become what seems to be the Ways Things Are. It sounds like it could've been written a few years ago, but it was published in ... 1956. (It's not the Boomers, it was the so-called "Greatest Generation" that solidified the corporate culture.)

Make your iwn cleaning supplies, and buy a bidet so you don't need toilet paper.......that saves a lot of money.

When I hear that you can "make 10%" in a year in the stock market, I know this guy knows nothing about the stock market

This is true. My cousin is worth about 7 million but you'd never know it. She lives in an average house in an average area, drives a modest car, wears non brand clothes and is always very understated and frugal. She never mentions her money and often pretends to be poorer than she is saying things like "I can't afford it". I also know others who are wealthy and they also act this way. The people who look rich are often up to their eyes in debt.

The first $100K isn't as special as people make it out to be. What's important is how much times your expenses $100K covers.

I'll admit that I skipped through the video because 15 minutes is a long time to get to the point. How did he go from $0 to $100K saved in a bank account in 4 years if he didn't even earn $100K from all income sources? Is someone else paying for his lifestyle? I'd be doing quite well if I could save my gross income each year.
